PPE Directive

THE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AT WORK REGULATIONS STIPULATE THAT EMPLOYEES MUST BE PROVIDED WITH CORRECT AND APPROPRIATE PPE (PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT). GLOVES THAT ARE CATEGORISED AS PPE MUST BEAR THE CE MARK.

All protective gloves must comply with the European Standard EN420 - General Requirements. This standard outlines glove design and construction, comfort and efficiency, marking, labelling and information, innocuousness and storage details supplied by the manufacturer.

Further standards relate to the physical performance of gloves and provide a defined system of evaluation to measure the capability of the specific product against a set criteria.

Tornado will carry the relevant pictogram on the gloves and corresponding technical data. The numbers directly below the pictogram indicate the performance levels in the specific sequential order list.

EN388 is a four stage test identifying product resistance against abrasion, cut, tear and puncture hazards. The relative test result data is stated on the glove in sequential order for performance identification.

EN388 can now be supplemented with an additional cut resistant test ISO13997 which calculates a TDM rating by Newtons of cut load. The alternative test represents analysis of higher technological materials using a straight blade at constant speed and load.
